• According to legend, Ada Bojana was created when the sailing ship “Merito” ran aground near two small islands in the 17th century after a storm. Over the years, river sediment was deposited on the wreck of this ship and the two nearby islets, which first formed the river bank and then the island. Over time, this triangle-shaped island divided the Bojana river into two branches that flow into the Adriatic Sea.

• Today, Ada Bojana is an iconic summer destination that has become famous for its peacefulness and recharging abilities for anyone who steps on the 4.8 km2 island.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY OF ADA BOJANA

• The growing involvement in sustainable development has been brought forth by the challenges we face in our modern world, such as global warming, reduction of the ozone layer, increasingly frequent occurrences of natural disasters (tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods), mostly due to the increasing levels of environmental pollution. Therefore, helping to continue the awareness of the importance of environmental protection is one of our main goals.

EROSION, & THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ADA BOJANA

• Both erosion and rising sea levels have already made their mark. In May 2020, high tidal waves destroyed an apartment building on the western part of the island. In the last 2 years, Ada has already lost 10% of its total land area, including over 35m2 of its beach.
